17 Feb

Janice and the Supertank, a band from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Led by Janice, an eclectic vocalist and songwriter (Winner of “Best Solo Performance – Vocals” for Malaysia’s BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2007, as well as the Winner of “Best Song Compositions” for Battle of the Bands 2005 & Malaysian Revival Songwriting Competition 2006), with numerous compositions in various styles ranging from Folk-acoustic, Rock, Pop, R&B, Dance, Jazz, Funk to Soul (told you they were a tank full!), the Supertankers are unique – both in sound and charisma.

From their twitter account, they hinted that they will be in Singapore to promote their album “Sleep Talking” at the end of March this year. I will keep track on them and confirm about their location and the exact date. So those who never heard of this talented Malaysia band, you should try to listen their track at their reverberation site : www.reverbnation.com/janiceandthesupertank

Ya Saya!! Showcase by Imran Ajmain

15 Feb

After the success of last year’s “100 Hari Acoustic Tour” series, which celebrated Imran Ajmain‘s resolve to quit smoking for good, the man himself is back again with a more upscale showcase, to be held at Playden @ The Arts House this coming 24th and 25th February 2012. Both shows are slated to begin at 8pm on both days, sandwiching an added show at 3pm on the second day. It has been quite awhile since Imran has held a big-scale showcase for fans of his music, the last if my memory has not failed me, was back in February 2008, a good four years ago. I believe this showcase will feature new singles which he will release soon, so those attending will most probably be able to get an advanced preview before radio listeners do.

Like the memorable acoustic tour which was held at Badoque Cafe last July, this showcase will feature Fazley Yaakob (or Dato’ Fazley Yaakob to be more precise), the man who made the song “Asmara Ini” a haunting hit a decade ago. 2011 was surely a memorable year for the man, as his wife gave birth to their third child in September and he was also conferred the title of Dato’ by the Pahang sultanate in December. Local up-and-coming trio, Northbound, completes the line-up. I’ve included one of their Youtube performances below for you to get a feel of their potential. Personally, I’m quite impressed and cannot wait to watch them live. To purchase the tickets to the showcase, you can either get them at Badoque Cafe, Spyke or email info@imranajmain.com.

Yuna And Ramli Sarip will be feature in MOSAIC 2012 in Singapore

15 Feb

The greatest songs by the artists we love.

Listen as Zul Tania and Cat Ong reflect on soul legend Marvin Gaye’s timeless musical question What’s Going On?. Open your heart as Ramli Sarip invokes passions with a roaring rendition of The Beatles’ With a Little Help from My Friends. Be uplifted as Stacey Kent and Jim Tomlinson consider the beauty around us with Louis Armstrong’s life-affirming What a Wonderful World.

Taking its name from John Lennon’s transcendent song of child-like innocence and honesty, imagine: a soundtrack to peace features iconic classic songs by well-loved troubadours such as Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, U2, and more. Songs that have grown to represent universal truths to many, put together in a poignant narrative that underscores a prevailing message of peace.

Mosaic Music Festival calls upon an inspiring assembly of musicians to bring forth the messages of these songs, including Malaysian pop sweetheart Yuna who touches hearts with her powerful emotive songs; the well-loved folk artist Art Fazil and indie musician Jon Chan who regularly move hearts with their honest songwriting; and the soulful and unassuming Ling Kai.

They are accompanied by special guests—award-winning American jazz singer Stacey Kent and saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, the inventive Bossarenova Trio, which includes the grand dame of bossa nova Paula Morelenbaum, and Spanish indie phenomenon Russian Red.

The concert features musical direction by respected producer and arranger Joshua Wan, who also forms the musical backbone of the evening with Noir, consisting of Melissa Tham (vocals, keyboards), Tony Makarome (bass) and Soh Wenming (drums), together with their friends Daniel Chai (guitar), Eugenia Yip (vocals) and Roxanne Abutin (vocals, guitar). Hosted by accomplished thespian Remesh Panicker, the concert will be scripted by filmmaker Lillian Wang.

An evening of passion and inspiration in a concert—no, an experience—you don’t want to miss as Mosaic Music Festival celebrates the universally desired value of peace.

Charice “Infinity Tour” Live In Singapore

18 Jan

Lushington Entertainments proudly presents CHARICE ‘INFINITY TOUR’ at the Kallang Theatre on Mon, 5 March 2012. With a No. 1 song on Billboard’s Dance Charts (‘Pyramid”), a Top Ten Pop debut last Spring – and a major role on the hit TV Show “Glee” last season, her talents are now even bigger than even she imagined. When this barely five foot bundle of dynamite opens her mouth to sing, with a soaring voice filled with emotion and conviction, the audience literally gasps. At over 260 million hits and counting on YouTube, that audience is growing at a staggering pace.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Charice’s talent was discovered at age 4 when her mother, also a singer, found her daughter singing “Happy Birthday” and decided to teach her proper vocal technique. By age 7, Charice was competing in singing contests throughout Asia and supported her family through the earnings from these contests.

When a fan began posting a series of Charice’s performances on YouTube, she instantly became an authentic Internet sensation attracting the attention of American TV shows, resulting in appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show. “You are a force to be reckoned with. That voice comes from something bigger than yourself,” raved Oprah.

David Foster then invited Charice to perform on his David Foster and Friends PBS Show in Las Vegas. At the “David Foster and Friends” show in Mandalay Bay, Charice received no less than six standing ovations. In between the two Vegas appearances, Charice went on to perform with Celine Dion at her Madison Square Garden show in New York City.

During Charice’s appearance on Oprah, her heart stopping song “Note To God” written by multi-Grammy winning songwriter Diane Warren became an instant Top 10 hit on iTunes with 100,000 downloads. Charice also had a featured role in the recent “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” movie. On the international front, Charice’s first CD has gone to No. 1 in Japan and throughout Asia. On top of her success in the music world, Charice just finished filming her first feature film; “Here Comes The Boom”. Charice recently released her second studio album “Infinity” throughout Asia. The album hit the top of the charts in Asia.

Having wowed audiences with her amazing live performance at the open-air Padang Stage at the Singapore Grand Prix in September earlier this year, Charice is making her return to Singapore. This time, her soaring vocals will dazzle audiences in an intimate and cosy setting. Concert-goers are in for a memorable, enchanted evening with CHARICE at the Kallang Theatre.
